“The Heritage Flowing in the Nanpan River” by Qi Lanxin

The online exchange project "Our river is the main heroine" continues, and today's presentation is brought to you by a student of Qujing University of Medicine & Health Sciences, Qi Lanxin. Flip through the slides to read another heartfelt story of falling in love with Qujing's natural heritage.

Dear guests, welcome to Qujing, Yunnan — the First City at the Source of the Pearl River. As a famous local legend goes: "The mythical elephant turns into a mountain to guard the southern land, and the nine dragons spit water to form the Pearl River."

Today, we will follow the Nanpan River, the mother river of the Pearl River, to explore the rich civilizations and folk cultures along its banks.

First, we come to the Pearl River source on Maxiong Mountain, which features the amazing natural landscape of "One Water Dropping into Three Rivers". This place is not only the source of the Pearl River but also the source of the Nanpan River. With the Zen culture of Pearl Source Zen Temple as its core, it has formed a unique regional cultural system. It carries the wisdom of multi-ethnic coexistence and the traditional virtue of "thinking of the source when drinking water", which fully shows our theme: "Seeking roots at the source of the Pearl River, sharing emotions with the waters of the same river."

Moving downstream along the Nanpan River, we arrive at Liaohu Ancient Town. As the main artery of the Pearl River source, the Nanpan River has long been the important waterway for transporting Liaohu ceramics. Here, the profound Cuan culture and traditional pottery culture blend perfectly. You can also appreciate the rustic Cuan pottery, a well-known intangible cultural heritage of Qujing.

Next, we reach the Zhuyuan Root-seeking Corridor — the Duoyi River area. The Duoyi River finally flows into the Nanpan River and is home to the Buyi people. During the March 3rd Festival, locals hold folk activities such as singing competitions, Water God worship, waterwheel experience, and canoeing. The Buyi Eight-Tone is a traditional folk performance that sings about their life, nature, and gratitude to the river.

In addition, Qujing has colorful ethnic festivals: the Miao Caihuashan Festival is for blessing, gathering, and entertainment; the exquisite Banded Copper craftsmanship; the Yi Torch Festival uses torches to pray for good weather, harvest, and safety. Qing Dynasty poets also wrote beautiful verses to praise the broad waves of the Pearl River.

These verses fully show the magnificence of the Pearl River and the cultural significance of its source in Qujing.

Different rivers nurture different civilizations, but our hearts and spirits are connected.

Dear friends, the journey ends now, yet our ties shall never fade.

We call on young people from all over the world to become cultural bridges, inheriting Nanpan River's culture and diverse ethnic heritage, and connecting ancient Eastern wisdom with the modern world.

We have the shared theme: Flowing Together, Growing Together.
