Further good news to the followers of the joint Russian-German "Nostalgia Tourist" project by Volgograd and Cologne! Today, on air is its youngest participant – Alexey Stepanov, a fifth-year student of School No. 19 situated in Volgograd's Central district, and his older and more experienced co-author Anastasia Zaitseva, a second-year student of the Volgograd Institute of Management – RANEPA branch.

Anastasia was born and raised in the town of Mikhailovka, Volgograd region, and at the moment she is studying Economics in Volgograd. In her free time, she likes taking pictures, watching interesting films and TV series, reading, and listening to music. In people, she respects kindness and sincerity above all.

Among Alexey's hobbies, there are basketball, cycling, swimming, and, suddenly, railroad transport: Alexey is a big fan of trains and is even considering becoming a motorman himself – of a supersonic train, no less.

Their video is dedicated to just one landmark, but a very spectacular one – the first Fire Observation Tower built back in the time when our city was called Tsaritsyn.

"It's a fascinating building," explains Alexey. "In the park next to it, you feel like you're making a journey to the past, to the other historic reality. It's even hard to imagine that in the 19th century, this building was considered a high-tech object filled with cutting-edge equipment. This is definitely something to be seen and experienced. I would advise you to walk there, have a snack in a nearby cafe, and then, maybe, even climb to the top of the tower and enjoy the panoramic view of Volgograd."

Why, in your opinion, should international tourists come to visit Volgograd?

Anastasia Zaitseva: This city is of great importance in the history of Russia. Fierce battles took place in Volgograd during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Also, in this city, there are many magnificent cultural monuments. In addition, Volgograd has a wonderful Embankment on the banks of the Volga River, a planetarium, many picturesque parks, and large libraries. I can say for sure that foreign guests will not regret visiting this beautiful city!

Let's say you have one day in a completely unfamiliar city. Where would you go, or what would you do first?

Alexey Stepanov: I have not been to that many cities yet, but what I love most of all are parks and museums, especially those centered around technology and local history. It is there that you can find the most interesting historic and natural landmarks of any city. While travelling, I always pay attention to train stations, airports and, of course, people around me – how friendly and helpful they are, etc.

Anastasia Zaitseva: First of all, I would definitely visit monuments and cultural places and get acquainted with the local cuisine.
