International Youth Conference for Peace in the Future summed up its efforts of 2020

On November 22, the International Youth Conference for Peace in the Future 2020 (IYCPF) gathered for the final online-meeting of the passing year. This time, its Zoom-aided platform united over 40 people again.

The list of Volgograd participants included an expert of the Volgograd Regional Youth Library Sergey Babenko, the Chair of the Volgograd branch of the "Russia – Japan" Society Elena Samigulina, a participant of the IYCPF 2019 Polina Biryukova, and the students of Volgograd grammar schools (gymnasiums) No. 14 of Krasnooktiabrsky District and No. 5 of Voroshilovsky District.

As had been previously promised by the organizers, the November meeting featured a Guest of Honor – Mr. Yoji Sasaki, the nephew of Sadako Sasaki, whose life and fate are behind the paper crane being widely regarded as one of the symbols of Hiroshima's atomic tragedy. A musician and a composer, he presented a song he had written on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Sadako's death. The video accompanying it was made of the recordings made during the previous Zoom session of the IYCPF.

Another defining trait of the event was the abundance of spontaneous conversation. Just like on live conferences, the school and university students from Bangkok, Daegu, Chengdu, Grigny, Hannover, Hiroshima, Tehran and Volgograd split into groups to discuss such topics as "What is a 'peaceful world' to me?" and "COVID-19: changes and challenges", and then went on to present the results of their work to the others.

In the end of the event, the first ever "homework" was distributed: until the next online session, which is scheduled for January, each city is supposed to suggest their own ideas for the IYCPF 2021 – as everyone hopes, it will already be held live.
